Katara Public Diplomacy Centre's website launched

The Katara Public Diplomacy Centre’s (KPDC) website was launched yesterday, further enhancing efforts to build bridges between people through culture and public diplomacy.

Katara – the Cultural Village general manager Prof Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti and Global Public Diplomatic Network secretary-general Darwish Ahmed al-Shaibani led the inauguration, which was attended by Katara’s department managers.

Prof al-Sulaiti said the website will enable communication between all groups of Qatari society, as well as build strong bridges between people across the globe.

He highlighted KPDC’s role in raising awareness on the importance of popular friendship through public diplomacy, and strengthening links and international relations.

Prof al-Sulaiti said the website will improve the centre’s efforts in cultural diplomacy by introducing creative initiatives launched by Katara, and will also provide a platform of friendships and understanding, and communication between countries.

KPDC, he added, will serve as a gateway for co-operation, as well as a cultural and knowledge exchange, leading to the adoption of cultural projects that promote common interests through peaceful means. This, he stressed, will cement Katara's position as a hub for world cultures and an oasis for cultural communication between nations.

Al-Shaibani, also the CEO of KPDC, said: “The website of KPDC will contribute to the definition of public diplomacy pursued by the State of Qatar by spreading culture and awareness on the importance of public diplomatic relations in Qatar and abroad.”

He said the website was established under the supervision of a team of technicians at Katara, and during a record period, the team established a data and information bank for public diplomacy, and designed the site in a way that meets current and future needs.

Al-Shaibani noted that the establishment of a website for KPDC also aims to enable citizens and residents “to communicate and build bridges of partnership between the centre and the departments concerned with public diplomacy in the State of Qatar”.

He pointed out that the website is available to all State institutions wishing to go beyond the borders of Qatar, and introduces the centre's mission, vision, programmes and activities to achieve the main aim of promoting Qatari public diplomacy locally and internationally.

KPDC was established last December within the framework of Katara's presidency of the Global Public Diplomacy Network.
