Kahramaa tests 5,850 water samples for quality in 6 months

The Water Quality Laboratory of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) tested 5,850 water samples throughout its supply network during first half of this year.

“As part of its continuous work to provide the best services, the Kahramaa Water Quality Laboratory collected and analysed 3,047 water samples during first quarter (Q1), and 2,803 water samples during second quarter (Q2) of 2021, to ensure water safety and quality according to the highest local and international quality standards,” Kahramaa has tweeted. The water quality laboratory follows an annual plan for accurate and regular monitoring of water quality at Kahramaa which is approved by the Director of Water Networks Affairs from the source to the customers, where the plan covers all sources of water production, water pumps, distribution networks, as well as tankers.

The water quality laboratory evaluates the quality of water from various sources according to local standards and international standards, especially the guidelines and standards of the World Health Organization where the laboratory examines components to ensure the quality of drinking water.

Kahramaa’s water quality exceeds the guidelines and standards of the World Health Organization in this regard. For the transparency, water samples are sent to international laboratories for analysis and to ensure their validity and compliance with local and international specifications and standards to ensure reliable laboratory results. The Water Quality Laboratory of Kahramaa last year received new version of the accreditation ISO/IEC 17025:2017 after it fulfilled all the required international standards.

The laboratory has been accredited for 8th year in a row as it received the international accreditation certificate (No 3265.01) by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), in the field of accreditation for laboratory proficiency in testing and calibration for the first time on March 19, 2012. The laboratory obtained accreditation through efforts made by specialised and qualified technical personnel using the latest technologies and laboratory devices according to internationally accredited test to provide two important elements: accuracy and high quality in conducting laboratory tests and their results for the purposes of making a sound decision about water quality and conforming to international standards.

In February this year, a new Water Quality Monitoring Laboratory of Kahramaa opened in Al Thumama, as part of the country’s plan to ensure water delivery with the highest quality to all parts of the country.
