International Falcon Festival takes off at Sealine

The 11th International Falcon Festival ‘Marmi Championship’ began Wednesday at Sabkat Marmi in the Sealine area. The festival, organised by the Qatar Al Qannas Society under the patronage of HE Shiekh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, will continue until February 1.

Falconers converged on the venue before dawn, according to a statement. The Marmi Championship is one of the important events that highlight the cultural credentials of Qataris by throwing light on the local heritage through various shows and competitions.

Ali Sultan Nasser al-Hamidi, one of the organisers, pointed out that the championship is heading towards the second decade.

Abdullah Ahmad Fakhro, a participant, appreciated the arrangements for the festival. This year’s registration has recorded a huge turnout of falconers, including 40 from Kuwait.
