Indian Embassy in Qatar apex bodies elections to be held online on Dec 26

Doha: Biennial election for three apex bodies of the Indian Embassy in Qatar - ICC, ICBF and ISC – will be held online due to the Cpvid-19 pandemic. 

An election notification, issued by the embassy today, said that “online election for the position of president, managing committee members (4 posts) and representatives of associate organizations (3 posts) of the three apex bodies - Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) and Indian Sports Centre (ISC) - for the term 2021-2022, will be held on 26th December 2020 in accordance with the Constitution and Bye Laws of the respective Apex bodies.”

Election to the fourth apex body, IBPC, is deferred as it has been decided to examine the structure and functioning of IBPC. There is a possibility that the body could choose a nomination route than an election to select the office bearers. This is not confirmed yet.

“In view of the representations/suggestions/recommendations received from the Indian Business and Professional community members based in Qatar, it is decided to form an Ad Hoc Committee to examine the structure and functioning of IBPC and recommend measures to make it more effective, representative and inclusive platform for promoting trade and investment ties,” the notification issued by T Angeline Premalatha, Chairperson, Election committee, said. 

“Election for IBPC is deferred and decision on the same would be taken after examining the recommendation of the Ad-Hoc Committee. The existing Management Committee will continue to function till the further instructions,” it added.
