HEC Paris in Qatar to host free online public masterclass

As the Web 3 era – the third iteration of the World Wide Web - begins to take hold globally, HEC Paris, ranked number one Business School in Europe, will be conducting its free-to-attend online public masterclass to help people understand the blockchain technology on which Web3 and decentralised cryptocurrencies are based.

The masterclass will be held on March 1 by Prof Olivier Bossard, professor of finance and executive director of MSc Finance at HEC Paris, who will decode blockchain and cryptocurrencies through.

“This is an exceptional opportunity to learn from one of the most acclaimed of the HEC Paris international faculty,” explained Dr Pablo Martin de Holan, dean of HEC Paris in Qatar.

“Prof Bossard’s programme has been ranked #1 worldwide for 10 consecutive years in the Financial Times Global Ranking of Master’s in Finance, and he is a holder of and Msc in Applied Mathematics and the HEC Paris ‘Best Professor Award’. HEC Paris is proud to have thought leaders such as Prof Bossard as part of our faculty, helping us fulfill our mission of impact and excellence.”

Prof Bossard, who has over two decades of experience in financial markets and the derivatives industry and his current study fields include: Finance 2.0, FinTech, cryptography and blockchain technology, will take participants through the workings and implications of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency – the completely new, decentralised chapter in the history of money in the 90-minute masterclass. In the masterclass, he will demystify blockchain technology and its widespread implications in a simple-to-understand format which will appeal to a multi-disciplinary audience.

“Bitcoin is the first application of this disruptive technology, although likely to be doomed to fail because of its lack of scalability and low adoption rate. New cryptocurrencies are emerging every day, with various degrees of success, and accompanied by insane speculation,” commented Prof Bossard. “However, beyond the hype and the speculation, blockchain technology is about to disrupt many areas of our modern world, way beyond finance and crypto-currencies, with applications in medical information, legal records, and supply-chain to name a few areas of application.”
