Hassad to open new public slaughterhouses across country

Hassad, Qatar’s premier investor in food sector, announced yesterday that several new public slaughterhouses are due to open soon across the country, to operate alongside the automated slaughterhouse in Al Wakrah Central Market, with the aim to meet the needs of the public.

The development of Um Salal public slaughterhouse will soon be completed, and will officially open before the holy month of Ramadan - with a production capacity of 700 heads per day.

While another public slaughterhouse in Al Sheehaniya is currently being built and due to open before Eid Al Adha. The slaughterhouse once completed will operate with a production capacity of 600 heads per day.

On this occasion, Eng. Mohamed Al Sadah (pictured), Hassad CEO said: “In order to meet the needs of the public especially during peak times, such as the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Adha, we developed Um Salal public slaughterhouse to increase its production capacity to 700 heads per day. Moreover, an integrated public slaughterhouse is currently being built in Al Sheehaniya for sheep, camels and cows.”

Al Sadah also explained that Hassad is currently conducting a study to re-evaluate the public slaughterhouses in Al Khor and Al Shamal areas, as well as other parts of the country, to serve the needs of the public. The automated slaughterhouse in Al Wakrah central market that spans on 14,000 square meters, currently operates with an average of 2,400 heads per day, while its production capacity can reach up to 9,000 heads per day for livestock, and it includes one additional line for cows and camels - to accommodate the peak seasons where the operations exceed 6,000 heads per day.
