Hashish, 6 tonnes of chewing tobacco seized

The General Authority of Customs (GAC) announced that it's inspectors have seized large quantities of narcotics, including 24.7kilos of hashish, 6.2tonnes of illegal chewing tobacco and 3.5kilos of marijuana.

The GAC said in a statement on Saturday, that the contraband items were seized in several shipments at Hamad Port, Hamad International Airport and private airports customs.

During a ceremony to honour of the outstanding inspectors, GAC Chairman Ahmad bin Abdullah al-Jamal praised the efforts made by GAC inspectors to ensure the safety and security of the people of Qatar.

He stressed that the Customs provides all means of support and continuous training to its staff to make them aware of the methods adopted by smugglers.
