Free parking spaces near Lusail and Education City metro stations will be opened soon, said the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC), yesterday. The free parking spaces are part of ‘Park & Ride’ project of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
“We invite you to use ‘Park & Ride’ free parking near Al Wakrah & Al Qassar metro stations. This MOTC project will also provide parking spaces near Lusail & Education City stations soon,” said the Ministry of Transport and Communications in a tweet, yesterday.
MOTC had earlier opened the first free parking spaces near Al Qassar Metro Station on January 17 for public. The second free parking space near Al Wakrah Metro Station was opened on January 26. These parking spaces provide shaded parking to 700 vehicles.
The ‘Park and Ride’ Project is a part of MOTC's Public Bus Infrastructure Program. The project aims to encourage vehicle owners to use the modern public transportation systems to and from their destinations in less time and at a lower cost.
Metrolink service is one of the main reasons that have encouraged residents to use Doha Metro trains. metrolink is a feeder bus and van network providing first and last mile connectivity to Qatar Rail customers within two to five kilometre radius of the Doha Metro stations. These buses and vans carry passengers free of cost to the nearest Doha Metro Stations. The “Park and Ride” Project is another example of the considerable attention the Ministry pays to providing modern and highly efficient facilities and parking spaces strategically distributed across the country to encourage the public to use country’s modern, sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation.
