Five expats jailed for burgling houses

A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced five expatriate men to three years in jail and subsequent deportation for burgling many houses.

Local Arabic daily Al Sharq reported on Tuesday that the defendants were convicted of breaking into a number of houses and stealing cash and jewellery.

The issue started when one of the victims returned to his house from a trip abroad to find the kitchen door broken and some gold jewellery stolen from his bedroom in addition to a sum of QR6,000.

Police investigations pointed to this group of five defendants, who used to look for the houses left by their owners and tenants for trips outside the country and broke into them to steal.

The investigations also confirmed a number of thefts conducted by them in the same way at different intervals.
