First Ultimate Race set for March 19 at Katara

The country’s first Ultimate Race is all set for March 19 at Katara headed by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC). Total prize money is pegged at QR350,000.

The event is open to youth, aged 7 to 15 and adults alike. Participants’ endurance will be measured into three categories, swimming, cycling and running.

In a press conference held yesterday, QOC Director of the Ultimate Race 2022 Sheikh Suhaim bin Mohamed Al Thani said: “The QOC will organise this community event to raise awareness about the importance of sport and to take community sport to new grounds.” 

He also stressed that the Ultimate Race will help the national sports federation to discover and attract new talents to the Qatari national teams.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, QOC Head of Marketing and Communication Committee Mohammed Hamad Al Meanis said to date, the committee has recorded 175 people joining the event.

He explained that the event is aimed to make sports an everyday habit for everyone. “It’s for the fitness and we hope that the public, Qatari and non-Qatari residents can join in this event.”

The are two categories in the said event, Sprint Distance Triathlon and the Youth Duathlon.

Under the Sprint Distance Triathlon, participants will compete in three categories: 750M swimming, 20km cycling,and 5km running. 

Meanwhile, for Youth Duathlon, there are four subcategories based on the youth age group (7 to 11, and 12 to 15), 7 to 11 years will compete in 1km running, 2.6km cycling, and 1km running. 

The 12 to 15 years category will compete in 1km running, 6.5km cycling, and 3km running.

Race for Sprint Distance Triathlon will start at 6.30am and Youth Duathlon, at 6.50am at Katara. 

Interested participants can register via QOC’s website qqtriseries.com/event/theultimate2022. 

A fee of QR500 is needed to settle for individuals who will be joining the Sprint Distance Triathlon, open to age 16 and above and to veterans, 40 and above.

Meanwhile, for the Youth Duathlon, the fee is QR75.
