First Scrap Art Exhibition opens at Souq Waqif

Doha: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani opened the first edition of the Scrap Art Exhibition, at the West Square of Souq Waqif this evening.
Souq Waqif Art Center will be exhibiting over 250 artworks from 15 countries at the west square.  

Art works from recycled scrap materials created by 30 artists will be exhibited at the venue. The exhibition that will be inaugurated today evening at 6pm will be from 8am to 12 pm and from 4pm to 9pm until November 2.

The Prime Minister was briefed about the exhibits as well as the modern techniques and tools used in the works and designs of scrap art created by a number of famous international artists.

The artworks varying in size depict figurines including human beings, sealife and wildlife.

The exhibition is based on the concept of re-purposing scrap and waste to art pieces that can be displayed at different light.

It aims to change the social perspective through opening new artistic horizon in reverence to transforming scrap into art, by demonstrating a renewed method of this transformation.

The initiative invited thirty of the most prominent global artists in the field of scrap and these artists were invited to demonstrate the works of five countries which varies from figurative sculptors to furniture parts.
