FIFA World Cup 2022 Command Centre begins operations at Aspire

The Aspire Command and Control Centre for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadiums was officially launched yesterday at the Aspire Sports Accelerator complex.

The Centre will control all IT and operational solutions of all the 2022 World Cup stadiums.

Eng. Hamad Ahmed Al Mohannadi, Director Command Center Director at Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) said: “The Centre will manage and supervise all operational activities of sports facilities for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It will provide a suitable environment for developing these activities and guarantee their readiness for the World Cup and hosting upcoming sports events.”

Meanwhile, Director of Applications and Communication at the Command and Control Center Eng. Hani Chahal stated that the first-of-its-kind Center would help organizers for the World Cup correct potential loopholes when used for the FIFA Arab Cup, which begins tomorrow in Doha.

“This is the first time in the world that there will be a unified Centre to connect all stadiums, the first by a host country. From this Centre we can monitor and control the systems and operational requirements. Operators can oversee facilities and building management as well as safety and security which covers CCTVs, access control at entry gates and to check trespassing and infiltration by unauthorized persons, all connected to one platform.”

The Command Centre is connected to all the eight World Cup stadiums, giving operators access to electronic facilities and aiding organisers in crowd control measures with its data analysis features.

The systems monitor the number of visitors and fans that use every stadium gate and communicate to ground staff to take practical control measures.

For the FIFA Arab Cup, the Centre will work in infrastructure management and provide operational support for ground staff across the venues. Following the tournament, the data extracted will help improve the facilities and processes ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Officials also noted that though the Centre has been established for FIFA World Cup stadiums, there are possibilities to expand and include more sports facilities in Qatar. Any facility that meets the requirement can be integrated into the system and included in the Centre’s operations.
