Fall in run-over accidents lead to decrease in accident deaths in Qatar

Doha: The General Directorate of Traffic said that there was a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents in 2018 as there were reduced number of pedestrian accidents.

According to the Department’s statistics, 46 pedestrians died in 2018 compared to 56 in 2017.

The statistics released under the title ‘2018, a year of achievement’ also showed that the total number of deaths in 2018 was 168 individuals as compared with 177 in 2017.

To decrease run-over accidents, the department will double its efforts and will deploy more traffic patrols during winter camping season where many accidents occur in the Sealine area, in addition to installing lights in dark places, constructing speed humps and distributing reflective bracelets to pedestrians especially in the Industrial Area.

Over 60 percent of traffic violations recorded last year were related to over speeding and the total number of traffic violations recorded in the country in 2018 was more than 1.78 million compared to 1.75million.

Statistics also indicate that there is a fall in the number of accidents this year as well compared with the same in 2018.
