Eid celebrations start today

*Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs readies 368 mosques and prayer grounds for Eid al-Adha prayer

Qatar is all set to celebrate Eid al-Adha from Tuesday, with public and private organisations making the necessary arrangements and lining up special activities for the occasion.

As announced earlier, the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has prepared 368 mosques and prayer grounds in different parts of the country for the Eid al-Adha prayer Tuesday, including 70 mosques and prayer grounds with places reserved for women.

The Eid prayer is scheduled to take place at 5.25am, according to the ministry.

Extensive preparations have been made at slaughterhouses to ensure that the process of sacrificing animals takes place smoothly. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) had recently launched its subsidised sheep initiative for citizens, which will continue until August 23.

The MEC and Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) have carried out intensive inspection campaigns over the past few weeks in preparation for the Eid. The inspections, targeting various types of shops and food establishments, among others, are expected to continue during the festive period to ensure that there are no violations of laws related to consumer rights, food health and safety.

The MME has also made the necessary arrangements in public places such as parks and beaches, where a large number of people are expected to gather, as well as prayer yards and mosques where the Eid prayer will take place.

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has lined up a series of entertainment shows at malls across the country to mark Eid al-Adha. The offerings form part of the Qatar Summer Festival (QSF) 2018.

Visitors will have the chance to watch special shows from the first until the fifth day of Eid at participating QSF malls: Mall of Qatar (MoQ), Lagoona Mall, Doha Festival City (DHFC), Al Mirqab Mall, Hyatt Plaza, B Square Mall, Gulf Mall, Dar Al Salam Mall, Al Khor Mall and Landmark Mall.

The Roaming Robots, Superheroes: Live Avengers Doubles, Peter Pan’s Adventure, Characters from Frozen, Qatar Traditional Dance, and Levitation Man are expected to attract a large number of spectators throughout the holidays. According to QTA, malls will also present one-of-its-kind children’s shows and activities besides the rotating shows, such as MoQ’s 'SpongeBob SquarePants Show' and DHFC’s Ben 10.

Also, several hotels are offering special 'staycation' and other offers to mark the occasion.

The Summer Entertainment City at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre is also expected to attract a large number of visitors.

Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation, will host Eid al-Adha celebrations that include the much-anticipated fireworks show, taking place at the Katara Esplanade at 9.45pm during the Eid holidays.

Also on offer are Eid gift distribution among children and a special presentation by a police musical band.
