Education ministry announces launch of 16th Scientific Excellence Award

Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced the launch of the 16th edition of Scientific Excellence Award, under the slogan "With Excellence We Build Generations", QNA reported.

In a press conference held on Monday, CEO of the Scientific Excellence Award and Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Shared Services Affairs Ali Abdullah al-Buainain reviewed the award goals and its categories, including the participation and the prerequisites of submitting the applications, starting today, and receiving the applications electronically. He pointed out the successes made during its previous editions, including the upgrading modifications made in its criteria for various categories, phases of the events of the 16th edition, including the honouring ceremony for the winners which is due to be held in March. He added that among these activities a special award exhibition will be held from Feb 1 to March 10, 2023, noting that a change has been made in some criteria including the categories of both primary and secondary schools, and the excellent school, where some criteria have been thoroughly studied and upgraded, in addition to entering some modifications in some of them.

Speaking to QNA, Ali Abdullah al-Buainain said the organising committee will hold a training workshop, where chairmen of the ad hoc committees will provide presentations today and tomorrow, combined with explanations for each category to be presented by the chairman of the committee.

The 16th edition of the Education Excellence Day Award is a continuation for the successes and the process of excellence achieved by previous editions, which means the essential preservation of what has been accomplished and developing them. He pointed out that the award had a wide echo in the society, which include the participation of students of Qatar abroad, and called on those willing to participate to essentially submit their applications starting today (Sept 13, 2022), and reminded that the organising committee has determined a number of social media platforms for those who are willing to participate in the category of nine awards, notably the scientific excellence awards for primary and preparatory students, scientific excellence awards for secondary certificate students, scientific excellence awards for postgraduate students, premium scientific research, premium teacher, holders of Master's and PhD degrees and premium schools.

Speaking at the forum, the director of the public relations and communications department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Omar al-Yafei revealed the general goals of the award and the wide demand for public participation, in addition to the methods of application for its various categories.

The increasing interest in the Scientific Excellence Award, which was launched by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in 2006, under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and the wide and growing participation in each edition underscores that Qatar focuses on human as the foundation for society development and in implementing Qatar National Vision 2030 through human development as one of the four pillars of this vision.

This implies that investment in people in Qatar via quality of education and scientific excellence is a strategic way to advance the country with knowledge.

The Scientific Excellence Award is one of the educational system's pillars in Qatar and represents one of the tracks that primarily enhances creation and innovation for students of educational institutions. It enables them to deepen the concepts of excellence and innovation through adopting global standards in this regard, implementing paradigm programmes, achieving individual and institutional integrated efforts to optimise outputs of the educational process in the state, honouring and appreciating the scientific excellence of sons and daughters of Qatar, and encouraging individuals and educational institutions to further upgrade their performance, to aid developments in Qatar.
