Head of the General Control Department at Doha Municipality, Hamad Sultan Al Shahwani, said that the campaign has been launched to remove the abandoned vehicles from Doha Municipality following the schedule of the committee for 2021.

Al Shahwani, who is also a member of the Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles, said that the campaigns were launched in the municipalities of Al Shamal, Al Khor and Al Zakhira and Al Sheehaniya where large number of abandoned vehicles were removed.

“Now it reached to Doha Municipality where it will run for a complete one month until the removal of all abandoned vehicles marked by municipal inspectors,” said Al Shahwani.

He said that so far about 2,000 abandoned vehicles were removed this year. “Over 250 abandoned vehicles have been marked in Doha which are being removed in coordination with the authorities concerned,” said Al Shahwani.

He said that the campaign began from Doha Al Jadida area and gradually will go to other areas of Doha Municipality. “This campaign will cover 16 areas in Doha Municipality,” said Al Shahwani.

He said large number of people were educated about the campaign which received overwhelming response from the motorists as many of them removed their abandoned vehicles themselves within given grace period.

Al Shahwani called people to cooperate with the Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles by getting rid of abandoned vehicles to avoid legal accountability following the provisions of the Law No. 18 of 2017 of General Hygiene.
