Doha Metro fixes 'technical issue'

The Doha Metro encountered “an urgent technical issue” Friday afternoon and was inaccessible for a certain period of time, before services were restored for commuters, it is learnt.

Doha Metro and Lusail Tram’s twitter post on Friday announced the disruption, which affected many commuters who were poised to visit some of the ongoing events such as the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, Qatar Balloon Festival at Aspire Park (Al Aziziyah station) and the Qatar International Food Festival at Al Bidda Park.

“We would like to inform you that Doha Metro is temporarily out of service due to an urgent technical issue. Our technical team is working to resolve the issue and restore the services. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will keep posted with service updates,” the tweet noted, but later announced that services for the Green and Gold lines had resumed on its network.

The Red line became operational before 7pm, completing the services for “all lines across the network” to be “fully back in service”.

A large number of commuters in the country rely on Doha Metro services, which provide faster, safer, and efficient mode of transportation since its launch in May 2019. The Metro’s entire network – comprised of 37 stations in three lines (Red, Green, and Gold) – operates with 110 trains.

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) recently announced some 680,000 passengers used Metro services located in the Corniche area during the temporary road closure from November 26 to December 4. Metro stations that witnessed a large turnout of commuters include the National Museum, Souq Waqif, Corniche, Al Bidda, West Bay, DECC and Ras Bu Abboud.
