The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)’s Fisheries Department has announced that fish markets at the Al Wakra, Al Khor and Al Ruwais harbours will be the designated points for selling fish to wholesale traders and shop owners directly.
The decision came following Saturday’s announcement by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to stop the sale of fish through public auctions at the Umm Salal Fish Market, in co-ordination with the MME, as a precautionary measure in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Accordingly, the MME said in a statement that sales will be conducted at the designated places in accordance with the following conditions: fish will be sold by kilogram; it should be checked by the veterinarian-in-charge at the harbour before being put on display; the fishing vessel owner should have a rust-resistant scale compliant with the stipulated health conditions; and the fish on display should be kept in plastic coolers.
