Caravan-making factories have started seeing hectic activity in view of the upcoming winter camping season

Representatives of some of these companies told local Arabic daily Arrayah that the demand this time has increased by almost 40% compared to the previous year, as campers consider caravans among the basic necessities of winter camping. In addition, some Qatari citizens like to have some of these tailor-made in order to use them to spend the nights on weekends and for holidaying on beaches.

They also stressed that the demand for making big caravans has considerably increased of late.

The officials said the good reputation of caravans manufactured in Qatar now transcends borders as some citizens of other GCC states now place orders for caravans and come to Qatar to take the finished products to their home countries.

Ali al-Khuzai, a customer, said he recently visited a caravan-making plant as he ordered a small caravan with a room and toilet, and he expects the work to be completed within two weeks. Noting that caravans play a key role in helping people enjoy the winter camping season, he stressed that extra care should be taken while towing these to the desired seaside spots. In some cases, it is better to employ experienced drivers to do the task to avoid any mishap.

He also praised the quality of local industry in this regard.

Mohamed al-Qubaisi, director of a caravan manufacturing company, said the management of his workshop has decided to increase its work volume by half due to the considerably high demand this year. Besides, more orders are received for big caravans and the largest caravan made by his workshop so far is 18m long, 5m wide and 4m high.

He added that some of his customers prefer to turn their caravans into luxurious rooms with special and lavish decorations to maximise their comfort in the desert. He added that customers can order any design or make special requests and the workshop will do the work accordingly.

Rashid al-Buflassah, owner of a company that sells US-made caravans, said he had travelled to the US to get the dealership of some brands of caravans and carry out some updates and modifications on these when they reach Qatar to make them suitable for the local market.

He noted that such caravans are highly demanded by customers in Qatar and the GCC region, adding that the demand grows ahead of the camping season.
