Darb Al Saai hosts special events, attracts large number of children

Doha: Darb Al Saai, the venue of Qatar National Day 2022 celebrations in Umm Salal, has emerged as a major attraction for children by hosting colourful events and activities for them.

“Darb Al Saai is hosting a number of events and activities for children such as puppet shows and workshops for educating children handicrafts,” said the General Supervisor of Qatar National Day 2022 Celebrations Dr. Ghanem Al Ali. 

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of a recent event, Dr. Al Ali said that there is a special focus on children to introduce them to Qatari culture and tradition and instill national identity by hosting colourful events and activities for them.

Two plays themed FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 are dedicated for children which they can enjoy with their families. The plays ‘World Cup Journey’ and ‘Fulfill Your Dream’ are being presented at Puppet Theater by Puppet World of Theater Affairs Center.

Daily workshops are also being held to educate children of all age groups about puppet making by using materials available at home and creating a puppet play. 

Al Hush pavilion at Darb Al Saai is also attracting a large number of children from all age groups. It is providing an opportunity for children to learn traditional games.

Al Hush pavilion has two separate sections for girls and boys. 

“Al Hush event is providing 11 old traditional games including Al Tila, Al Saba, Al Keram, Al Dawama, Al Nabala, Al Rin, Al Qis, Al Khasba, Al Laqfa, Al Madod and Al Barwi,” said Abdurrahman Mansour, a supervisor of Al Hush event.

He said that there are some games that are being played in the sand such as ‘Bar W Bahr’ and others are played at the dedicated areas at the pavilion.

“As many as 28 volunteers with adequate knowledge of traditional gems have been deployed to teach children these games,” said Mansour.

To encourage children for participating in the games, he said, competitions are being held enabling children to compete and win attractive prizes. “The event is targeting children, but same time adults can get introduced to these traditional games because it is part of Qatari heritage,” said Mansour.

Spread over an area of 150,000 sqm, Darb Al Saai will host 4,500 cultural, heritage, arts, sports and entertainment activities for 24 days until December 18, daily from 3pm to 11pm. The activities are being held under QND 2022 slogan ‘Our unity source of our strength’.
