Commercial Bank raises golf awareness among students

With the annually awaited golf tournament Commercial Bank Qatar Masters just around the corner, the title sponsor of the event, Commercial Bank, and Education City Golf Club have organised and scheduled school and university visits in Doha to raise awareness of the sport among students.

Hussein Ali al-Abdulla, EGM, chief marketing officer at Commercial Bank, said: “This exciting awareness campaign seeks to promote Commercial Bank Qatar Masters 2020 as well as golf as a sport.

“Every year, we tirelessly work to deliver the best golf experience for participants and players, as well as spectators and enthusiasts.

“Spreading awareness about this fascinating game aims, in the first place, to educate the public in Qatar, in particular community members aged between three and 25 years, in order to make them more familiar with the game, its techniques and values.”

The awareness campaign included several schools and universities in Doha such as The Hamilton International School Doha, Qatar University, QFB Academy, Al Jazeera Academy, Qatar Academy Al Wakra — a member of Qatar Foundation, and many more, the bank said in a statement.

During the visits, students got the chance to learn more about golf and try their hand at the game.

Moreover, Commercial Bank presented to schools a full golf teaching kit called ‘Start New at Golf’ (SNAG), which enables physical education teachers to offer golf classes as part of the school’s PE curriculum.

On the campaign, Michael Braidwood, general manager of Education City Golf Club, said: “Every year, as part of Qatar Masters, Commercial Bank organises school visits to raise awareness of this special sport.

“This year, having our partnership in place for the first time, we are hoping to get more students to try golf by making them more familiar with the internationally renowned tournament taking place in Doha, Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.”

Commercial Bank Qatar Masters 2020 will take place for the first time at the Education City Golf Club from March 5-8, and tickets are available for free at qatar-masters.com
