beIN to screen BBC Earth series 'Serengeti'

beIN Channel will telecast BBC Earth’s natural history series ‘Serengeti’ from August 10. Award-winning British actor John Boyega who will narrate the dramatised natural history series, told 'Gulf Times' that the series follows the interconnected stories of a cast of savannah animals over one year.

“I have always explored innovative ways of taking an audience into the animals’ world but 'Serengeti' was a chance to push the techniques and visual style even further and tell a story from the animal’s perspective in a location that I’ve always found very special," Boyega explained in a statement. "The series takes place over a year so we see how the seasons impact on our characters and we share in their triumphs and their trials,” he said.

The series to be telecast in six episodes, will be shown on channel No. 308 on the beIN platform at 9pm Doha time. About the new series, Boyega noted that in addition to the thrilling wild life, Doha’s viewers can look forward to enjoying some of the groundbreaking filming techniques and pioneering technology, including drone technology and the use of multiple stabilised camera systems.

“Everything that’s shown is real footage and real behaviour, but we have used the kind of narrative techniques and characterisations that you would find in a drama serial to allow us to tell a dramatised story, weaving multiple storylines together to give audiences a new experience,” Boyega said. Best known for his work in the recent 'Star Wars' films, Boyega will narrate the six-part series, bringing to life the challenges and experiences facing some of the Serengeti’s most well-known and iconic species in intimate detail.

According to Boyega, 'Serengeti' shows the audience what can happen when a natural ecosystem is protected. “I don’t think you can watch 'Serengeti' without seeing parallels with our own lives. It’s our world in a microcosm, one where all life is connected and everyone depends in everyone else. Through the characters we meet, you see how their individual needs and care for their families’ survival underpins everything they do,” he noted.

Serengeti, meaning 'endless plains' ecosystem is a geographical region in Africa. It is located in northern Tanzania and spans approximately 30,000 sqkm. With unique access to a pristine and unspoilt corner of the Serengeti, the series captures the high drama of the daily lives of the area’s distinctive wildlife up close, joining them in the emotional moments they face at key points in their lives, in their natural habitat.

“You empathise and care about the animals because on so many levels they are just like us. I hope that when audiences see the series, they will understand we are all part of the same world, we share a deep connection with other life on the planet and that will make us treasure it even more,” added Boyega.
