Bahrain reopens airspace to Qatar

Bahrain will open its airspace to Qatar as of January 11, the civil aviation affairs authority said Sunday following a US-backed deal last week to end the Gulf crisis, Reuters reported.

Aviation analyst Alex Macheras also tweeted Sunday that Bahrain had updated its Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) to remove its airspace ban on Qatar,

"Breaking: Bahrain officially updates its NOTAMs to remove its airspace ban on Qatar, which lasted 3.5 years — (following Saudi Arabia and the UAE in removing the bans)," he said.

Bahrain News Agency also reported the opening of Bahrain’s airspace for Qatar-registered aircraft. The Civil Aviation Affairs (CAA) at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has announced that Bahrain’s airspace is open for Qatar-registered aircraft, in accordance with established procedures, according to the report.

"The relevant notices have been amended regarding Qatar-registered aircraft commencing Monday morning January 11, 2021, at 00:01 GMT," the CAA said.

With the reopening of airspace and all borders, Qatar Airways and Saudi Airlines (Saudia) have already announced the operation of direct flights between cities in Qatar and Saudi Arabia starting Monday.
