Awqaf Ministry opens Autism Society headquarters

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs inaugurated the headquarters of the Qatar Autism Society, with the support of the Endowment Fund for Health Care, the Endowment Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development, and the Endowment Fund for Family and Childcare.

The General Department of Endowments has allocated a building in Qatifiyah area for the benefit of the Qatar Autism Society, in implementation of the conditions of endowers, Qatar National Vision 2030, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the keenness of the State of Qatar to enable citizens and residents with disabilities participate effectively in social and public life.

The General Department of Endowments aims through this strategic partnership to contribute to integrating young men and girls with autism and their families into the Qatari society, empowering them and providing them with an appropriate environment that provides them with all means of care, education, rehabilitation programs and purposeful activities, in order to develop their abilities and creativity.

The provision of the Qatar Autism Society with this building comes from three endowment funds, the waqf fund for scientific and cultural development, given that science is the basis for building the individual and the advancement of society, and the waqf fund for family and childhood care, since the family is the first building block of society, and that the child is the cornerstone for the advancement and progress of the nation, and the waqf fund for health care as advanced health care is the yardstick for people’s development and growth. The Qatar Autism Society offers many programs at its headquarters, including vocational rehabilitation for adults, educational workshops, daily life skills, and fitness classes.

Director-General of General Department of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani said that the headquarters of the Qatari Society provides services to all segments of the autism spectrum, pointing out that the headquarters will host activities and courses for male and female students with autism.

Director of the Endowment Funds Department, Mohammed Yaqoub Al Ali confirmed that the headquarters of the Qatar Autism Society indicates that the results of the strategic partnership between the General Administration of Endowments and the Qatar Autism Society, and that this support is in the service of an important segment of society, namely, autism spectrum disorder patients. Meanwhile Saad Mohammed Ali Al Ghanim, Vice President of the Qatar Autism Society, said that the headquarters is the result of community partnership, explaining that the association was established in 2017 as a fruit of the efforts of the former mother association, which is the first and only platform that represents children with autism and their families.
