Astronomically first day of Eid to be on May 2: Qatar Calendar House

Doha: The Qatar Calendar House announced that, according to accurate astronomical calculations conducted by specialists, Monday, 2 May 2022 AD, will be the start of the month of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr for this year, and that Sunday, May 1, 2022 AD, completes the holy month of Ramadan, 1443 AH.

The legal decision on the start of the month of Shawwal for this year remains within the jurisdiction of the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in the State of Qatar.

Executive Director of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ansari Complex Engineer Faisal Al-Ansari stated that the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1443 AH will be born on the evening of Saturday, April 30, 2022 AD (the day of sighting), at 11:29 pm Doha local time, 8:29 pm, Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

He added that it is impossible to see the crescent of the month of Shawwal on the evening of Saturday, April 30, 2022 AD in the sky of the State of Qatar and all Arab and Islamic countries, because the crescent of the month of Shawwal would not have been born at sunset on the day of sighting.

It is worth noting that the beginnings and ends of the Hijri months depend on the movement of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth, while the beginnings and ends of the Gregorian months depend on the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the sun.
