Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has opened a new underpass and bridge on Mesaimeer Interchange for traffic towards Al Wakra and Al Wukair from Industrial Area Road and E Ring Road in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic.

The 750-m underpass will provide free flow traffic from Industrial Area Road towards Southern Part of Doha Expressway as well as the 560-m bridge linking traffic from the E Ring Road.

On this occasion, from Ashghal Highway Project Department Ahmed Ali Al Emadi said that the new bridge and underpass will largely improve vehicular movement in all directions following the removal of some diversions that would provide direct connections with other routes.

"Residents in Al Wakra and Al Wukair are the best beneficiaries from the new routes since the underpass make easy access for those coming from Industrial Area Road as well as for those coming from E Ring Road, alleviating traffic pressure on the nearby roads and providing more options for road users,” Al Emadi added.

The new three-level interchange is the first of its kind in Qatar as it contains nine underpasses providing free flow traffic. The interchange also consists of two major bridges. One of them connects Rawdhat Al Khail Street and

Industrial area road in both directions, and the other one connecting E-Ring Road with the southern part of Doha Expressway in one direction, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic in all directions.

Ashghal says that the traffic movement from Al Wakra and Al Wukair via Southern Part of Doha Expressway towards Doha Expressway and 22 February Street is due to open by Q2, 2020.
