Arabian horses art auction takes place today in Katara

Doha: The Arabian Horses in Art Auction is set for today at Katara Gallery 47 featuring 11 paintings and two sculptures.

Organised by AlBahie, this is part of the second edition of the Katara International Arabian Horse Festival which will also conclude today. The event will start at 4pm and registration to bid has started yesterday.

The participating artists include Khairi Alwan, Emad Taay, Ali Al Mimaar, all from Iraq; Jill Vanstone from Australia; Deborah Rush, Jill McKinney and Janice Taylor from USA; Erna Goudbeek from Netherlands; Ilyas Phaizulline from Russia; and Pierre Jules Mene from France.

Alwan’s works include “The Chase,” Vanstone’s “Waiting for the Masters,” Rush’s “Farm Yard Friends,” Taay’s “The Caravan” and “Harmony of Love,” Goudbeek’s “The Dream,” Taylor’s “Beautiful Expressions” which is a set of three, Phaizulline’s “Lion’s Attack” and “A Stable in the Arch,” and Al Mimaar’s “The White Rose” and “Prince of the Desert.” Estimated price is from $6,000 to $40,000.

And for sculptures, McKinney’s “Gentle Bond,” a bronze on wooden base with 47 x 23 x 38 cm measurements and was executed in circa 1980. And Mene’s “The Accolade” on bronze patina with 53 x 21 x 34 cm in measurements and executed in circa 1850. Estimated price for these are from $8,000 to $16,000.

AlBahie explained that the bidding can be made in person, by telephone, online, through an agent or in writing. “Bidders must provide proof of identity and address when submitting bids, otherwise the Bid will not be considered place,” it explained. 

For bidding in person, the bidder should fill a registration form on or prior to the auction and a numbered paddle will be provided to the bidder. Meanwhile for bidding by telephone, he should fill a telephone bidding form at least 24 hours in advance of the auction, and telephone calls will be recorded.
