Applications for higher studies scholarship on the rise, says Ministry

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education received more than 750 applications for the government scholarships, according to the official website.

"The number is likely to go up," said Saleh al-Muftah, director, admissions and registration in the scholarship department, adding that students in Qatar are increasingly showing interest in higher studies and availing scholarships.

The applicants are interested in studying international relations, law and international affairs in Italian and French languages, he explained.

Registration for the scholarship programme will continue throughout the academic year 2019-20. Students wishing to pursue higher studies can apply for the scholarship through the link: https://scholarship.edu.gov.qa . And the required documents must be attached electronically. Scholarship will be allowed after a scrutiny is carried by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The scholarship programme was launched in 2015 in a bid to help Qatari students meet the needs of the labour market. Scholarship is available for major disciplines including supply chain management, airport management, aviation management, logistics management, airport and aviation security, medicine, agriculture, livestock and fisheries, statistics and vital statistics, veterinary medicine, teacher education, computer science, information, science, laboratory and standardisation, and Spanish, German, Italian, Turkish, Russian, French and Japanese law as well as international relations in the same languages, translation and engineering. These subjects were identified by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs.

According to figures, released by the Ministry of Education, a total of 4,171 students have benefitted from the scholarship programme.

Al-Muftah also pointed out that more than 70 students have been so far enrolled to the “Tumoh” scholarship programme that was launched by Qatar University in collaboration with the ministry last year. The programme is aimed at providing the local job market with qualified teachers and it’s run in coordination with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.
