Amir stresses importance of family's role in development plans: DIFI Director

Doha: Executive Director of Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi, has said that the speech of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Shura Council has elucidated the importance of the family’s role in development plans.

“The speech of H H the Amir in the first ordinary session of the first legislative term corresponding to the Shura Council’s 50th annual session, was comprehensive, and laid out a road map to follow in all fields. His Highness, moreover, pointed out on the family and its importance in the development process,” Dr. Sharifa Noman Al Emadi, said in a statement.

“With pride, we watched His Highness’s historic speech, and we noticed that His Highness mentioned the family several times, clearly indicating that the family well-being comprises a top priority at the level of development plans. It also reflects our wise leadership’s keenness to ensure family cohesion and strengthen the family’s role in society.”

“During his speech, His Highness also touched on the issue of child rearing - and the importance of parenting - when His Highness stressed the need for direct disciplinary educational communication between parents and their sons and daughters, rather than delegating the job to others - a particularly important issue that we endorse at DIFI. We also stress the extent to which policymakers show interest in the recommendations of family affair specialists.

During the speech, we noticed linking the importance of the role of the family and parental education on the one hand, to instilling the values of citizenship and social responsibility on the other,” she added.

DIFI Executive Director further said: “His Highness also cast light on the importance of the family in his speech when he said: ‘The tribe, the extended family, and the family are all components of our society that we are proud of, and believe they have countless advantages’. All this is unmistakable evidence that family cohesion and sound social upbringing, in turn, are directly reflected in the advancement of society, which is what we at DIFI aspire to achieve through the studies we have conducted to support and champion family wellbeing in Qatar.”
