All set for International Junior Science Olympiad

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has confirmed that preparations have been completed for the launch of the International Junior Science Olympiad, in December.

As of December 3, the ministry will host the 16th edition of the International Junior Science Olympiad 2019 under the slogan ‘Towards a Generation Enjoying the Skills of Tomorrow’ with the participation of 70 countries from around the world, and will continue until December 12.

Ali Abdullah al-Buainain, acting assistant undersecretary for Shared Services Affairs and chairman of the organising committee for International Junior Science Olympiad, said that this edition, which will be hosted by Doha, will be the largest in terms of the number of participating countries,  the development of the competition system, and the potential provided by the country.

Al-Buainain wished Qatari students good luck to win the gold medal in this important international event.

He said all the tasks entrusted to the organising committee and its sub-committees have been completed. The tasks included providing various types of support related to visas, accommodation, test rooms, and free medical services for participants, and other related matters, in addition to the agreement with the Ministry of Interior to facilitate the movement of students during the tournament.

Al-Buainain confirmed that co-ordination has been made with all authorities concerned, from the security, medical and logistical aspects, the General Directorate of Passports and Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) at the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Public Health, Katara, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, as well as many other institutions in the country.

Regarding the tour programme of the delegations, he explained that the ministry has prepared a tourist and cultural programme that includes visiting the important cultural and tourist attractions in Qatar, to introduce visitors to important landmarks of Qatar, its urban, economic and cultural renaissance, and its history and heritage.

He pointed out in the same context to organising a cultural night for all participants in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and Katara. (QNA)
