Al Sailiya Central market reopens after sanitisation

Al Sailiya Central Market resumed normal operations on Thursday after the conclusion of the sanitisation and cleaning works over three days as part of abiding by the preventive and precautionary measures against the spread of Covid-19.

This is part of following the instructions of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to maintain public health and safety, an official source at the market told local Arabic daily Arrayah.

Stickers are placed the floor to instruct people to follow the rules of physical distancing, by leaving around 2m between each other. All those entering the market have to undergo a body temperature check, show the green code on Ehteraz app and wear face mask.

There are also thermal cameras at the entrances of the market. Awareness messages in different languages are constantly announced through the public address system urging people to abide by the preventive and precautionary measures against Covid-19. Shopping carts are continuously sanitised.

Since its reopening on Thursday, the market has seen a considerable turnout of customers. The market usually receives around 3,500 visitors each on Thursday and Saturday, and between 2,000 to 2,200 visitors on other days.

The security guards at the entry gates have an application to calculate the number of the visitors inside the market at a time to maintain the MoPH directives with regard to the Covid-19 protocol.
