Al Sadd Paediatric Emergency Centre open for regular services

Though Hamad Medical Corporation's (HMC) Al Sadd Paediatric Emergency Centre (PEC) is a designated Covid-19 facility for children since early April, the regular services are continuing as usual, a senior official told Qatar TV Monday.

"Suspect or confirmed Covid-19 cases have a special entrance and exit which are completely separate from the main entrance of Al Sadd PEC," clarified Dr Mohamed al-Amri, acting chairman of paediatrics and director of PECs.

The Covid-19 treatment facilities at Al Sadd PEC are completely sealed off from the normal operations of the centre, he stressed.

Besides, the part designated for Covid-19 patients have four fully equipped intensive care units, with adequate number of medical staff, physicians and consultants.

"Each paediatric Covid-19 patient admitted at Al Sadd PEC is assigned a separate room with one parent allowed to accompany while maintaining all the necessary preventive measures. The same is applicable at the health quarantine facilities outside the centre for children," Dr al-Amri said.

The senior official pointed out that the Covid-19 symptoms in children are either simple or non-existent and they recover quickly.

"However, children with chronic diseases could experience severe symptoms and need extra care. Parents should strictly follow all precautionary and preventive measures to protect themselves and their children from any potential infection," Dr al-Amri added.
