ACS Doha holds first International Day

ACS International School Doha has held its first International Day at their new landmark campus. The Parents Student Organisation (PSO) arranged an educational journey with over 40 pavilions featuring countries chaired by parent volunteers where students could learn more in-depth about each country represented.

Students were also given mock passports that they 'used to travel to' each of the countries and given an educational visa stamp upon learning about the visited country. At several reading stations parents read folklore from different countries to students as well as a school-wide international parade of all the grade levels with students dressed in their traditional outfits.

“International Fair is the heart of ACS community. The nostalgia of seeing everyone together again after so long was emotional and quite amazing! Looking forward to many more wonderful events in the future,” stated Najla Nabil, a PSO Board Member.

The key findings of a recent survey of ACS alumni show that students who receive an international education leave school well-prepared for further study and work. In particular, international school students develop a better range of `soft' skills such as time management, critical analysis, and independent thinking than their peers who have followed national qualification programmes.

Almost all respondents felt that their international education had prepared them well for their career, and the top quality highlighted was an appreciation of different cultures - named by 76% of respondents. 57% said their education helped them develop an inquiring mind, 58% named communication skills, and 60% named self-management skills.

“Studying in an international setting with students from around the world, provided me with the environment to develop communication skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. The company I work for has offices all around the world and I’m frequently asked to work across borders. Given my experiences in the past, I’m comfortable when dealing with multiple cultures.” Sam Hariton, ACS Cobham, Class of 2001.

With the success of International Day, the first Open Day for prospective new families will be held on March 19, from 10am to 12 pm. Prospective families will have an opportunity to meet with other parents who have children already attending ACS International School Doha, the principals, and academic leads for each of the divisions, as well as a tour of the school’s campus and facilities. To register for Open Day, visit the school website at www.acs-schools.com/doha, or call 4474-9000.
