50% discount for traffic fines limited to a month

The 50% discount on accumulated traffic violations will end on March 17 beyond which the discount will be applicable only for a month, as per the old system, a senior official has said.

This was announced by Lt Col Jaber Mohamed Odaiba, assistant director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, on the ‘Police With You’ programme on Qatar Radio.

The aim of the 50% discount if settled within a month of the traffic violation being registered is to help the person not accumulate fines.

"If a person fails to settle his traffic violations, he can approach the Traffic Department and inform his inability to pay. He will be transferred to the Case Follow-up Department to complete the procedures," he said.

Lt Col Odaiba revealed that the department has chalked out an awareness programme for motorcyclists working with delivery services. Video clips from traffic cameras of accidents suffered by delivery bikers are used to create awareness.

"Increase in the number of delivery motorbikes and electric scooters is one of the most prominent scenarios that the the Traffic Department wants to address in its plan for the current year following several complaints received in this regard.

"Awareness lectures are organised for motorcyclists taking into account the different driving culture among drivers."

The official said there is a good turnout of delivery riders for awareness lectures, as the companies concerned are also involved in the exercise.
