4,407 food inspection tours in Al Rayyan last month

Al Rayyan Municipality carried out 4,407 inspection tours at various food establishments within its jurisdiction in April, which resulted in the issuance of 47 violation reports in accordance with Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control.

A statement by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said 29 complaints related to public health were reviewed and duly addressed. Further, four violation reports were referred to the security entities concerned for the necessary procedures.

Besides, veterinarians at the municipality supervised the slaughter of 6,937 heads of livestock at various abattoirs there. This resulted in the destruction of 73 full carcasses and 541kg of meat for being unfit for human consumption. Similarly, 81,624kg of fruits and vegetables were destroyed at Al Sailiya Central Market as those were found unfit for human consumption.

In addition, a food outlet was shut down and 94 samples of food products were sent to the central laboratory for the necessary food safety tests.
