400,000 Qatari homes connected to Ooredoo fibre

Ooredoo announced yesterday that it has reached another historic milestone in its drive towards the future of home entertainment systems, as it confirmed it has connected 400,000 Qatari homes to its fibre network.

“This impressive achievement was reached in November 2018, and consolidates Ooredoo’s position as a market leader in the telecommunications industry and a driving force behind Qatar’s mission to be one of the best-connected nations in the world,” said a statement issued by the company.

“Ooredoo’s state-of-the-art fibre network offers customers a groundbreaking network experience with features such as ultra-fast home broadband, with blistering speeds up to 10Gbps, as well as content with 4K entertainment on Ooredoo tv.

“With gigabit-speed fibre penetration only commercially available in about 10 countries worldwide, Qatar’s is the highest in the world – as confirmed by an Arthur D Little report in Q1 2018 – with some 99% of Qatar’s homes covered by fibre, nearly double the penetration rate of 2012, and matched only by Latvia, Lithuania and Singapore.

“More than 88% of households in Qatar are fully connected to fibre, also the world’s highest rate, matched only by Singapore.”

Speaking about the landmark milestone, Ooredoo Qatar chief executive Waleed al-Sayed said: “We are delighted to announce such a phenomenal achievement in reaching 400,000 homes connected to our fibre network.”

The chief executive added: “We are proud to be offering Qatari citizens and residents such world-class connectivity.

“We hope our customers are enjoying making the most of the technology and we look forward to many more such milestones in the future.”
