Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs announced yesterday the government scholarship plan and its conditions for 2019-20 at a joint press conference held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Under the plan, 1,942 scholarships in a number of specialized courses have been offered to Qatari citizens as per the current and future requirements of the local job market. 

Expatriate students born in Qatar, children of Qatari women and those holding Qatari document are also entitled to the scholarships in medical specialized courses under certain rules and regulations.  The press conference was attended by a number of officials from both the ministries. Assistant Undersecretary of the Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Abdullah Musallam Al Dosari said that the government scholarship program aims at proving specialized Qatari workforce to meet the requirements of the job market.

A total of 4,171 students benefited from the scholarship program since it was launched in 2015. “The scholarship plan has offered 1,942 scholarships for the academic year 2019-20,” said Al Dosari. He said that the key specializations for the forthcoming scholarships are supply chain management, airport management, aviation management, logistics management, airport, and aviation security, medicine, agriculture, livestock and fisheries, statistics and vital statistics, veterinary medicine, education (teaching), computer science, information, science, laboratory, and standardization.

“The specializations also include law and international relations in Spanish, German, Italian, Turkish, Russian, French and Japanese languages, language and translation and engineering,” said Assistant Undersecretary of the Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Abdullah Musallam Al Dosari.

Speaking about the roles of two ministries to implement scholarship program, Acting Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Khalid Al Ali, said that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education will guide and send the students on scholarships according to the plan. 

However, he said, that the Ministry of Administrative Development Labor and Social Affairs will prepare general policies of scholarship and coordinate with government institutions concerned in preparing scholarship plan as per the need and then send it to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. 

Saleh Al Muftah, Director of Admission and Registration at the Scholarship Department said that registration will be available from July 30, 2019, and will continue throughout the academic year 2019-20. 

“The application is available at https://scholarship.edu.gov.qa/. The required documents must be attached electronically,” said Al Muftah adding that details about the specialized courses, accredited universities, and general conditions are available at the website of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. He said the scholarships for expatriate students born in Qatar, children of Qatari women and those holding Qatari document are available in the specializations of medical and medical assistance (general practitioner, pharmacy, nursing, ambulance & medical care, pharmacy and medical radiology).
