100 real estate brokerage licences issued; 500 applications in process

To streamline the real estate brokerage practice in the country, the Ministry of Justice has so far issued 100 licences to real estate brokerage firms.

“Over 500 applications by real estate brokerage firms for obtaining licences are under process,” said Director of the Real Estate Brokerage Department at the Ministry of Justice, Khalid Hassan Al Mehshadi. Speaking in a Qatar TV programme, Al Mehshadi said the Ministry of Justice made necessary laws and regulations to regulate real estate brokerage practice including obtaining a licence.

“We received a large number of applications for registration by real estate brokerage firms, which indicates that enough grace periods were given to rectify the situation,” said Al Mehshadi.

To a question about the monitoring the practice, he said the Ministry of Justice formed a team of officials with judicial powers to monitor the real estate brokerage practice to curb violations from all aspects.

“Real Estate Brokerage Department educated real estate brokerage firms about new laws and regulations. Now they are fully aware of it, so the actions will be taken against violators during the coming period.”

Speaking about the current situation of real estate brokerage practice in Qatar, he said: “Now we are satisfied with the practice. We received overwhelming response from the firms in following new laws and regulations.” Al Mehshadi said that growing concerns were seen among firms for obtaining licences.

“Now people are very happy about the regulation of brokerage practice in the country because it has been brought under the preview of a strong mechanism,” he added.

The new laws and regulations helped making the roles of brokerage offices clear to build trust among people dealing with them.

As per the law, the employees of the office will carry badges of their offices.

The real estate deals will take place through attested contracts mentioning the commission in clear words to safeguard the rights of both parties. The specialised training course for brokers were held by the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Ministry to provide the participants with the information and skills necessary to apply provisions of law regulating real estate brokerage work.

The Ministry of Justice is keen to develop the real estate brokers sector through a set of important and supportive decisions. The training course were held to qualify brokers and raise their professional level that qualifies them to take the legal oath and legally accredit them to practice the profession.
