Doha: Public Works Authority Ashghal has initiated new procedures to ensure salaries effectively reach workers in its projects.
The Engineering Services Department, which is representing Ashghal will implement this in cooperation with Ministries of Finance, and Administrative Development & Labour and Social Affairs.
This procedure to protect labour rights now stipulates a statement from the Labour ministry, committing companies to pay workers' dues, in tender documents. It is one of the basic criteria for a bid to be technically accepted.
It is also stipulated the provision of project data to the Labour ministry so that the ministry can inspect the progress in the payment of wages.
Companies are also obligated to issue a certificate from Qatar Credit Bureau on their financial position explaining the extent of its commitment with banks and customers.
