The start of the holy month yesterday saw the return of an annual tradition – the firing of the Ramadan cannon, which marks the end of a day of fasting, the beginning of the Athan (call to prayer) and the start of Iftar time. People gathered in large numbers at places such as the Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Grand Mosque and Souq Waqif in Doha to experience the moment when the cannon is fired.
