Qatari official appointed Special Adviser to UN Secretary-General

Doha: HE Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres appointed HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Muraikhi, as Special Adviser to him.

The main responsibilities of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the UN are to give, on request, advise to the Secretary-General for dialogue and relations with regional organizations and member states, and to call for cooperation with the UN between partners, especially South-South global cooperation and the private sector, as well as facilitating high-level meetings for the Secretary-General and other senior UN leaders, said the Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the UN in Doha in a statement on Monday.

Also, the Adviser undertakes work on special projects mandated by the Secretary-General, providing advice in cooperation and partnerships areas as well as geopolitical dynamics, methods and mechanisms for correcting misconceptions about the UN system and its work, as well as undertaking other related activities.

HE Dr Al Muraikhi held the position of Humanitarian Envoy for the UN between December 2016 and December 2019.

HE Dr Al Muraikhi has a proven experience record in the diplomatic and humanitarian fields, as he held many positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions within the country, before moving to work with the UN.
