DOHA: The Supreme Education council (SEC) yesterday passed a law regarding the mandatory licencing of private institutions offering courses like computer science and languages.
The licence will be issued by the SEC after fulfilment of the criteria and after successful payment of the deposit.


The education centres are informed to comply with law before six months after the law comes into existence. However as per request the ministry will have the power to extend the period to more than six months.
The other institutions the law will be applicable is that offering courses like language skills, secretarial services, accountancy and business studies. This law will not be applicable to government institutions and non-government institutions providing training to employees.
The duration for this licence will also be provided by the ministry and the person given in charge of the private institutions should be more than 21 years and with no criminal record.
Not more than one institution should be there in a single complex and the headquarters of these licenced institutions should only be changed after approval from the ministry.
Running an institution without licence is make the land owner in jail for six months and will attract a fine of QR 100,000.Publishing such unlicensed centres also will also be fined up to QR 100,000.
