Katara horse festival a distinctive blend of past, present and future

The second day of the Arabian Peninsula Horse Show, which forms part of the Katara International Arabian Horse Festival (KIAHF 2022), continued to enthrall the visitors with the finest purebreds being displayed and vying for top prizes in various categories at the Katara Esplanade on Thursday (Feb 3).

As many as 239 finest purebreds from five countries qualified for the show, carrying a total purse of QR3,093, 500, in addition to cars and other prizes.

Title Show manager Bader Mohammed al-Darwish, also president of the Qatar Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon Federation, lauded the distinctive atmosphere and the large participation of horse owners in Qatar and the region.

“The festival aims to support the ancient Qatari heritage in the field of equestrianism to spread it globally, and to enhance the status of the original and unique Arabian horses at the various local, regional, and global levels,” he said.

Al-Darwish added that KIAHF is one of the largest sporting events in the field of equestrianism, stressing that the festival includes many activities which provide a distinctive character.

Dubbed as one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in the region, KIAHF includes competitions such as the Arabian Peninsula Horse Show Championships, The Auction, and The Title Show.

Al-Darwish pointed out that KIAHF is a wonderful experience and a distinctive blend of past, present, and the future, and it is an important step to link the bonds of relations between the world of purebred Arabian horses and the general public who are looking forward to discovering everything that is distinctive, beautiful, diverse and interesting. He wished success to all participants at the festival.

In Thursday’s Arabian Peninsula Horse Show events, Sinan El Alya of El Alya Stud and Theeban Al Rayyan of Al Rayyan Farm were adjudged as best in the Yearling Colts category.

D K'hailan of Dubai Arabian Stud in the Colts 2 Years Old (Class 5); Nibras Aljassimya of Aljassimya Farm in the Colts 3 Years Old (Class 6); Hessa Al Rayyan of Al Rayyan Farm in the Mares 4-to-6 Years Old (Class 7A); and Shahrazad Al Waab of Al Waab Farm in the Mares 4 to 6 Years Old - Class 7B were best in their classes respectively.
