Indian embassy receives 92 complaints

A total of 92 complaints have been brought to the attention of the Indian embassy monthly community house since the beginning of this year.

Out of these 68 were solved to the satisfaction of the complainants and their employers. This was informed at the monthly community house held at the embassy on February 22. The grievances were related to issues of delayed payment of wages and violations of contract terms and conditions.

Ambassador P Kumaran, third secretary (labour & community welfare) M Aleem and other officials met all the complainants, discussed their problems in detail and assured them of the embassy’s active follow-up of their cases with the authorities concerned in the government of Qatar.

An embassy team visited the Central Prison and Deportation Centre last week to inquire about the welfare of detainees from India. The total number of Indians in the Central Prison and the Deportation Centre currently, is 219 and 100, respectively.

The embassy has issued 56 Emergency Certificates so far this month, to as many Indian nationals for their repatriation.

The embassy also issued 13 air tickets to needy Indians for their return to India this month. This month the embassy also organised four consular camps at Salwa, Mesaieed, Al Khor and Dukhan & Zikreet areas, and rendered 260 consular services to Indian nationals. The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) supports efforts of the embassy and helps Indian workers through various welfare measures, including supply of foodstuff, transport support, medical assistance and other minor assistance.

During February, the ICBF helped 38 Indian nationals. ICBF president Devis Edakulathur and vice president P N Babu Rajan, along with some other members of the management committee also participated in the deliberations.
