The 8th online auction for fancy number plates of vehicles, organised by the Evacuation and Judicial Auction Department at the Supreme Judicial Council through the Courts Auctions App, was able to collect QR585,500, according to Yousef Mohamed al-Bakir, head of the department.
He told local Arabic daily 'Arrayah' that this amount was from selling 18 fancy plate numbers out of the 20 offered at the online auction. No bids were received for the remaining two plate numbers. The first edition of this online auction was launched by the department on November 25 last year.
The participants at the auction have to agree to all the terms and conditions of the process before starting the bidding process. In addition, if the full amount of the sold number is not paid within the designated time frame, the security deposit will be confiscated and the number re-offered to other bidders. The defaulter will be banned from entering any future bidding process that pertain to the department.
While the auctioned plate numbers or vehicles would be registered in the name of the winning bidder, the sold equipment or buses can only be registered in the name of Qatari citizens or companies.
