Coast Guard shows off boat-building skills

The skills and expertise of the Qatar Border Guards and Coast Guards in developing multi-utility speed boats are prominently displayed at their pavilion at Milipol Qatar. Apart from an actual firefighting vessel that the Coast Guards developed in its own workshop, miniature models of a rescue boat, two firefighters and a sea platform are exhibited at their pavilion at the 3-day event which opened yesterday.

Speaking to Gulf Times, a young lieutenant said events like Milipol helps the Coast Guard to explain to the industrial and professional visitors the real requirements of their force.

He hoped that the expected completion of a naval academy in the country, most probably by next year, would help the young trainees acquire remarkably better skills in such areas as ship building in coming years.

The young Qatari officer is confident that the fighting and rescue vessels in the possession of the Coast Guards could effectively meet the country’s requirements.
