Air Passenger Numbers Surge by Over 28% in August 2023

Doha, Qatar: The aviation sector in Qatar continues to soar, experiencing remarkable growth with a 28.1 percent increase in air passengers during August 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Air Transport Statistics for the month revealed that the industry reached a new milestone, serving nearly 4.4 million passengers.

Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), on its social media platform, reported a 22 percent rise in aircraft movements compared to August 2022. In August 2023, the country recorded 22,909 flight movements, a notable increase from the 18,782 flights reported in the same month the previous year.

Furthermore, air cargo and mail shipments saw a slight uptick of 3.5 percent in August 2023, compared to the same month in the previous year. In August 2022, the air cargo and mail volume stood at 190,067 tonnes, while August 2023 saw 196,763 tonnes.

This growth trend has been consistent throughout the year, with substantial increases observed in air travelers, flight movements, air cargo, and mail. In July 2023, the number of air passengers reached 4.3 million, marking a 24.3 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.

Notably, June 2023 witnessed a record high, with air passengers surging from 3,105,978 in June 2022 to 3,737,572 passengers, setting a new benchmark for the month. Compared to June 2022, this represented a 20.3 percent increase in air passengers, while aircraft movements also rose by 15.1 percent.

May and April 2023 recorded significant increases in aircraft movements, with growth rates of 16.6 percent and 14.3 percent, respectively. These trends are indicative of the continuous efforts and initiatives to attract more tourists to Qatar.

As of August 25, 2023, Qatar welcomed a staggering 2.56 million visitors, contributing significantly to the country's economy. Officials anticipate that the leisure industry will play a pivotal role in driving Qatar's GDP growth, further solidifying its position as a global aviation hub.
