Expat gets 10-year jail for illicit drugs trade

An expatriate man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail and a fine of QR20,000 in addition to subsequent deportation for being convicted of illicit drugs trade and consumption.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the Drug Prevention Department of the Ministry of Interior had received information that the defendant used to consume and circulate the illicit drug marijuana. 

A search of his house and vehicle led to the discovery of an amount of the illicit drug hidden inside the package of food for aquarium fish. The defendant also admitted owning the illicit drugs before the court.


IT shops fined for 

selling fake software


Four IT shops have been fined QR10,000 each by a Doha Misdemeanour Court  for selling counterfeited and pirated copies of software.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that they were convicted of making copies of original software without the prior authorisation of the holders of the intellectual propriety rights and selling them to the public. 

The inspectors of the authority concerned spotted the violation, issued them reports and referred the issue to the court.
