DOHA: To prevent the misuse of water and electricity, the cabinet yesterday drafted a law that would result in penalties for wasting these resources. As per the law, if anyone found guilty wasting these precious resources will be strictly fined.
This law was a modified form of the Law No 26 and was altered after reviewing by the Advisory Council’s recommendation. The external lightings of buildings should have automatic keys based on conditions and specifications by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation Chairman.
A sum of money not more that QR20000 will be imposed on the law breakers. The law also restricts owners and inhabitants in using drinking water for the purpose of washing car or cleaning any equipment. If anyone found leaving lights in places such as walls or on the exterior of the buildings or houses will be fined up to QR10000.
This also applies to those neglecting damage to any means of transfer of water and electricity. A campaign named the Qatar General Water and Electricity Corporation was launched for conservation and efficient use of water and electricity. This aims at reducing the usage to a certain level in a 5 year time.
After this amendment the cabinet also took decisions regarding regulation and period of granting leave to military personal.
