Mauritian group stands by Qatar

A group of prominent Mauritian citizens has formed the Friends of Qatar-Mauritius, an organisation aimed at voicing support for Qatar in the face of the unjustified blockade imposed by the Saudi-led bloc.

The initiative is spearheaded by financial and banking pundit and former ambassador Azad Dhomun and Jean Marie F Richard, a seasoned media and PR practitioner.

“The group is dedicated to voice support to the government and people of Qatar following the most unfair, unwarranted blockade of this peaceful country by certain quarters echoed even in Mauritius,” they said in a statement.

“We deplore this unfounded position, which was unfortunately echoed in Mauritius. So we decided to set up our group to stand by our friends in Qatar with whom our people and country enjoy a longstanding privileged friendship,” said Richard announcing the creation of Friends of Qatar-Mauritius yesterday.

“The group will shortly be reaching out to decision makers and civil society in Madagascar La Reunion and Mozambique to voice its views in support of the longstanding amity between our peoples,” he added.

Mauritius severed diplomatic ties with Qatar in solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its allies in June.
